Author: Helen Boult (1848–1886)

Biography: Helen Gaines Boult was born around 1848 in Mobile, Alabama, the daughter of William Davis and his wife Helen. Her early life cannot be traced. She was adopted by her wealthy uncle John Malcomson of Liverpool who owned property in Alabama. In 1868, she married the solicitor-turned-painter Francis Cecil Boult in Paris and the couple had three sons. Her husband achieved success as a painter of animals. In the meantime, Boult wrote the single novel In Spite of All (1871) which is partially set in the United States. She died just 38 years old on 10 February 1886 in London.
