Author: Joseph Tom Burgess (1828–1886)
Biography: Joseph Tom Burgess was born in 1828 in Cheshunt, the son of James and Elizabeth Burgess. He worked as a wood engraver before becoming a journalist and newspaper editor. In addition, his obituary noted he was "an able archaeologist and naturalist." Burgess wrote several antiquarian works as well some fiction. He married and had at least one daughter. He died on 4 October 1886 in Leamington.
