Biography: Elizabeth Fox Tuckett was born on 6 April 1837 in Winterbourne, the daughter of Francis and Mariana Tuckett. She attended a Quaker school for girls before joining her brother Frank Fox Tuckett in his explorations of the Alps. Based on her travels, she wrote several books about the Alps, most notably Zigzagging Amongst the Dolomites (1871). In addition, she wrote two books for young adult readers. During her visits to F. D. Maurice in London, Tuckett became acquainted with the Pre-Raphaelite Brotherhood and was the pupil of William Holman Hunt for a time. In 1871, she married William Fowler, a friend of her brother and one-time M.P. for Cambridge. Sadly, she died in childbirth along with her child on 31 May 1872 in London.
