Author: Mary Louisa Code (1849–1873)

Biography: Mary Louisa Code was born around 1849 in Cork, the daughter of clergyman John Marsden Code and his wife Elizabeth. When she was still a child, her father left the Church of England for the Plymouth Brethren and the family moved to Bath where he worked as a minister. In her twenties, Code began writing fiction, producing several books in a short span. Her father died in April 1873. A few months later, the grieving family visited Llandudno. Sadly, while sketching near Swallow Falls, Code slipped and fell down the waterfall to her death on 22 July 1873. Her last novel was finished by her sister.
