Biography: Mary E. Bromfield was born on 23 March 1825 in Harrow, the daughter of clergyman William Mills, rector of St. Paul's, Exeter. In 1862, she married clergyman Henry Bromfield, the vicar of Blockley. It seems the marriage was childless. As a wife, Bromfield wrote a handful of books for young adult readers. Her husband died in 1880 and she never remarried, dying on 28 Novembrer 1888 in Lustleigh.
