Author: John Rose Butlin
Author: John Rose Butlin (1829–1865)
Biography: John Rose Butlin was born in 1829 in Whitchurch-on-Thames, the son of landed gentleman John Butlin. It does not appear that Butlin followed any profession, instead indulging his interests in historical and literary pursuits. As a mark of his interests, he was a member of the Speculative Society of Edinburgh and the Hull Literary and Philosophical Society and was elected a fellow of the Society of Antiquaries. In addition to various nonfiction, he wrote the well-received novel Strive and Wait (1865). In 1852, he married Mary Reeves and the couple had four children. He died relatively young on 19 June 1865 in Paris.
