Author: James Campkin (1822–1890)

Biography: James Campkin was born on 14 April 1822 in Melbourn, the son of Stoughton Campkin and his wife Rebecca. He worked as a schoolmaster in Grantham and later Shoreditch. Simultaneously he wrote fiction aimed at young adult readers. Campkin married twice, first to Betsy Jacobs and second to Hannah Geddes, and he had five children. He died on 25 September 1890 in Melbourn.
