Author: William Scott Martin (1840–1897)
Biography: William Scott Martin was born on 8 November 1840 in London, the son of the sub-treasurer of the Inner Temple Edward Horatio Martin and his wife Susannah (née Abernethie). His early life cannot be traced. In 1868, he married Frances Aurelia Gardner and the couple had seven children. By the 1870s, he worked as a schoolmaster in Hailsham. Interestingly, he befriended fellow author Charles Sumner Harington who lived nearby and edited all of Martin's three novels. In 1871, Martin and his family emigrated to York, Ontario where he worked as an accountant. He died after a fall from a bicycle on 8 October 1897 in York.
