Biography: Anne Gilchrist was born on 25 February 1828 in London, the daughter of solicitor John Parker Burrows. She was educated in Highgate before marrying barrister and author Alexander Gilchrist (1828–1861). The couple had three children. Following her husband's lead, Gilchrist herself turned to writing, contributing to several periodicals including Household Words and Blackwood's Magazine. In addition, she wrote the single volume of fiction Lost in the Woods (1860). Notably, she was a friend of W. M. Rossetti and spent three years in America (1876–1879). She died on 29 November 1885 in Hampstead.
