Author: Cecilia MacGregor (1835–1913)

Biography: Cecilia MacGregor was born on 12 December 1835 in Childwall, the daughter of businessman James MacGregor. Notably, her father was the chairman of the South-Eastern Railway and M.P. for Sandwich among other activities. MacGregor never married and turned to literature in middle age, contributing to the Monthly Packet and publishing some novels. Left a small annuity, she turned unsuccessfully to the Royal Literary Fund in 1870 when ill health affected her ability to write. Her claim was deemed insufficient. She spent the last decades of her life in London where she died on 23 March 1913.
