Author: Elizabeth Jane Whately (1822–1893)
Biography: Elizabeth Jane Whately was born in 1822 in Oxford, the eldest daughter of Archbishop Whately and his wife author Elizabeth Whately (née Pope). Her sister was the author Mary Louisa Whately. She participated in mission work in Dublin during the famine years. Whately was an accomplished musician and scholar of Latin, Greek, and Hebrew. She wrote several books including memoirs of her father and sister and fiction. She never married and died during a visit to Guernsey on 19 February 1893.
