Author: Katharine Elinor May (1840–1877)

Biography: Katharine Elinor May was born in 1840 in Kingston upon Hull, the youngest daughter of civil servant Henry May of the Bank of England. Her brother Frank May would serve as the Chief Cashier of the Bank of England. She grew up in Bristol in a large family. In middle age, she turned her hand to fiction beginning with Alfred and his Mother (1871). She never married and died on 18 March 1877 in Elstree.
