Biography: Eliza Sarah Oldham was born about 1821 in Nottingham, the daughter of bookseller and publisher Richard Sutton. Her brother was the author Henry Septimus Sutton. She trained in art and taught for a time. In 1862, she married the much older William Oldham, a retired hat maker. (According to the 1861 census, the two were already co-habitating before marriage.) As a married woman, she wrote two temperance novels. Notably, she signed the 1866 petition for Women's Suffrage. Oldham died on 26 August 1905 in Painswick, Gloucestershire.
