Biography: G. Henry Howard Paul was born on 16 November 1830 in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, the son of Stephen Carmick Paul. In 1851, he emigrated to England where he worked in journalism contributing to humor magazines. In 1854, he married singer and actress Isabella Featherstone and he himself debuted on stage in a short piece wrtten by himself. Husband and wife would continue to perform throughout England and the United States. (Isabella Paul is most remembered for her performance as Lady Sangazure in Gilbert and Sullivan's The Sorcerer.). After his wife's death at an early age in 1879, Paul continued to be connected to the theatre as a playwright, actor, and producer. All the while, he contributed to the periodical press. He died on 9 December 1905 in Boscombe.
