Author: George Rooper (1812–1905)
Biography: George Rooper was born in 1812 in Abbots Ripton, the son of clergyman Thomas R. Rooper. He was called to the bar and worked as a solicitor. However his true passion was salmon fishing, owning in his youth the Ballycrag River in Connemara from mouth to source. He wrote much on fishery questions and his fiction takes outdoor sports as its subject. He married and had several children. He died on 3 December 1905 at his residence Nascott House in Watford.
