Author: Emma Stuart Belby Sydney (1834–1923)

Biography: Emma Stuart Belby Sydney was born in 1834 in Boulogne-sur-Mer, France, the daughter of Emma Sydney. Her London baptism record omits her father's name, so presumably she was illegitimate. Her early life cannot be traced but she was living in Ludlow by 1881. She wrote the single work of fiction, A Life's Search (1868). She never married and died on 2 February 1923 in Ludlow. Her obituary notes she was "one of the oldest residents in Ludlow... [and] a staunch Churchwoman."
