Biography: Mary Emma Drewsen was born in 1847 in Ipswich, the daughter of bookbinder and printer Joseph M. Burton and his wife Emma. In 1872, she married Denmark-born draughtsman Julius E. Drewsen. The couple lived in Glasgow and had three children. During her married life, Drewsen wrote several novels aimed at young adult readers. She died in 1923 in Birkenhead.
