Author: Mary Emily Cameron (1826–1907)
Biography: Mary Emily Cameron was born in 1826 in Worcester, the daughter of Archibald Cameron and his wife Mary. Her father died during her childhood and her widowed mother moved to Inverness before 1851. While resident in Urquhart, Cameron wrote her single novel The House of Achendaroch (1878) set in the highlands of Scotland. She later moved to Kilmallie where she lived her last thirty years with Isabella Addison, variously described in the censuses as a nurse, lady's companion, and "confidential domestic servant." Cameron never married and died in August 1907 near Fort William.
