Biography: Henrietta Mary Chester was born around 1834 in Florence, Italy, the daughter of George Goff. In 1856, she married civil servant Harry Chester as his second wife. The couple had four children. Her husband died in 1868 and during her widowhood she wrote just the single collection Meg's Primroses, and Other Stories (1873) for S.P.C.K.
