Author: Agnes Darlington Hook (1844–1903)

Alternate Name(s): H. A. Darlington (pseudonym)

Biography: Agnes Darlington Hook was born in 1844 in Chalford, the youngest daughter of paper manufacturer Samuel Hook. The family lived in Snodland where their paper mills were located. Along with her sisters, she grew up in comfort. In middle life, she wrote a novel Each Other (1878) under the pseudonym "H. A. Darlington" (a variation on her legal name). After her father's death, she and her siblings continued to own and operate the paper mills. Hook never married and died after a year's illness on 12 September 1903 in London. There is some gossip she may have co-written books with her sister Maud Midsummer Hook (1840–1930) under the pseudonym "J. Jones" but the books have not been located.
