Author: James Mouat (1823–1893)

Biography: James Mouat was born on 22 April 1823 in Glasgow. He lost most of his family at a young age and emigrated with a brother to Australia in 1837. He was one of the original settlers of Yarraberb and later became instrumental in establishing the town Eaglehawk. Mouat went on to serve on the town council and as mayor twice. Based on his experiences, he wrote a novel The Rise of the Australian Wool Kings (1892). He died after a long decline on 12 June 1893 in Eaglehawk. He left a widow but no children.
