Author: John Campbell Oman (1841–1911)

Biography: John Campbell Oman was born on 10 December 1841 in Calcutta, the son of planter John Oman and his wife Maria Jane Helena Eweler. He joined the Indian civil service and worked for a few years in accounts before becoming an instructor at the Government College in Lahore. From there he went on to be the principal of Khalsa College in Amritsar. He wrote several books on Indian life and religion as well as one novel Where Three Creeds Meet: A Tale of Modern Indian Life (1898). In 1866, Oman married Ellen Agnes Hodges and the couple had two children. He returned to England where he died on 31 May 1911 in north London.
