Author: Christopher Duxbury (1837–1909)

Biography: Christopher Duxbury was born about 1837 in Blackburn, the son of cotton weaver Allen Duxbury and his wife Mary Duckworth. He became a schoolmaster in Blackburn then Ledbury. Simultaneously, he wrote works on grammar and fiction: the novel John Cotton (1873) and the serial Stuart Thornway. The latter led to a lawsuit against the publisher who refused to pay. In 1869, he married Charlotte Jones and had one surviving daughter. The marriage may have been unhappy since the censuses find the couple living apart. In later years Duxbury removed to London where an eighth edition of his grammar book was published. He died in 1909 in Kilburn.
