Biography: John Wade Clinton was born around 1810 in Greenwich. After a brief time at Oxford University, he became an actor being for many years associated with the Gloucester Theatre. In 1851, he married fellow actor Caroline Rogers and the couple had a large family including two daughters who also became actresses. In addition to his theatrical career, Clinton was a prolific writer for the stage and penny press, producing poetry, fiction, songs, farces, comedies, and tragedies. Near the end of his life, he contributed journalism to the Cheltenham papers. He died from an asthma attack on 24 May 1880 in Pimlico.
