Biography: Mary Anne Harris was born about 1855 in Penzance, the daughter of Irish minister James Kernahan. She was the older sister of author Coulson Kernahan. In 1881, she married bank manager Charles Harris and the couple would have three children. For several decades, they lived in the flat above the bank in St. Albans. During her married life, Harris wrote poetry (in particular nonsense verse) and two novels often under the name "Mary Kernahan." After her husband's death in 1916, she lived for a time in Dublin and Torquay before living with her youngest son in Luton. She died on 15 May 1939 in a nursing home in Morden, Surrey.
