Author: Firth Garside (1845–1917)
Biography: Firth Garside was born on 26 October 1845 in Dukinfield, the son of Samuel Garside and his wife Mary Dean. He earned an M.A. (school unknown) and served as the headmaster St. Luke's School in Torquay beginning in 1870. He went on to be the headmaster at Torbay College. In 1869, he married Catharine Albina Jackson and the couple had six children. Garside had one attempt at fiction with the boys' adventure novel The Adventures of Tom Hanson (1877). He continued to work to almost the time of his death which occured on 6 December 1917 in Torquay.
