Author: Bailey J. Harker (1843–1916)
Biography: Bailey J. Harker was born on 16 July 1843 in Grassington. He studied for the ministry and served in Llanfyllin, Banff, and Bolton in three denominations (Wesleyan, Primitive Methodist, and Congregationalist). In 1868, he married Amy Smith and the couple had six children. As an author, he wrote the dialect novel Philip Neville (1875), a travel book Ramble in Upper Wharfedale (1869), a guide to his native Grassington, and poetry. He was a noted antiquarian and promoted the Yorkshire Dales Railway. He died on 5 October 1916 in Grassington.
