Author: Eliza Helen Hamilton (1808–1868)

Biography: Eliza Helen Hamilton was born in 1807 in Glasgow, the daughter of merchant Charles Hamiltion and his wife Isabella (née Campbell). Her siblings include attorney and novelist Alexander Hamilton and novelist Catherine Georgina Hamilton. As a poet, she was the author of the hymn "Jesus, my Lord, to Thee I cry" and her collected works appeared as Hymns for the Weary (1869). The collection was published posthumously with a preface by her sister and her only novel The Destroyer: A Temperance Tale (1869) was published the same week. She never married and lived with her parents. She died on 14 April 1868 in Edinburgh.
