Biography: Reginald Turner was born on 2 June 1869 of parents unknown. He was raised by the Levy-Lawson family who owned the Daily Telegraph. He attended Merton College, Oxford and briefly trained as a barrister before becoming a journalist with a gossip column for his family's newspaper. Turner simultaneously wrote a dozen novels beginning with Cynthia's Damages (1901) but none had much success. He had a wide circle of friends including Oscar Wilde, H. G. Wells, Arnold Bennett, and W. Somerset Maugham. Notably, he was one of the few friends of Wilde who remained after his release from prison. Due to his homosexuality and the fate of Wilde, Turner spent much of his life abroad. He died on 7 December 1938 in Florence.
