Biography: Denis Shine Lawlor was born about 1808 in Killarney, the son of Denis Shine and his wife Ellen Lawlor. He attended Ascott College and "his scholarly attainments were of a high order." During a long residence in Co. Kerry he took an active and leading part in local business and politics. Notably, he led relief efforts in his neighborhood during the famine years. Lawlor wrote a travel book on Spain and a novel Centulle (1874). He married twice and had four children with his first wife. He died on 17 October 1887 in Inchbrook.
