Biography: Francis Kerril Amherst was born on 21 March 1819 in London, the eldest son of William Kerril Amherst and his wife Mary Louisa (née Turville). He attended Oscott College and eventually was ordained in the Roman Catholic Church by Cardinal Wiseman. He taught at Oscott, served at the mission in Stafford, and was raised to the See of Northampton. After a few years of ill-health, he died on 21 August 1883 in Kenilworth. He wrote just the single novel under the pseudonym "Fabian."
