Author: Robert Richardson (1850–1901)

Biography: Robert Richardson was born on 7 January 1850 in New South Wales, the son of merchant and politician John Richardson. He worked in his father's business and earned a B.A. from the University of Sydney before entering journalism in which he became a prolific contributor to English periodicals as well as Australian newspapers. From 1886 to 1894, he lived in Edinburgh. In addition to journalism, Richardson published poetry and books for boys. His last years were troubled by ill health. He never married and died unexpectedly on 4 October 1901 in Armidale.
