Biography: Emma Tinniswood was born on 22 June 1849 in Nichol Forest, Cumberland, the daughter of surgeon George Tinniswood. Sadly, her mother Emma died after giving birth. In her adolensence, the family moved to Darlington where Tinniswood took an interest in writing fiction and poetry under the pseudonym "Eona", much of which went to support the Railway Workers Orphanage in Derby. In fact, she worked to support the charity through fundraising and letters to newspaper editors. She never married and spent her last years in the Trimdon House Asylum. She died on 18 January 1907 in Sedgefield.
