Author: Frances Harriot Wood (1841–1930)
Biography: Frances Harriot Wood was born on 23 June 1841 in Macclesfield, the daughter of Charles Wood and Lydia Proctor. The family lived in Wells, Somerset, where her father died in 1860. In her thirties, Wood turned her hand to fiction producing a number of titles for juvenile readers. In the early twentieth century, she lived with her brother and sister near Bromley where she successfully applied three times to the Royal Literary Fund. She never married and died on 20 February 1930 in Clevedon. Her fortunes must have changed since she left over £13,000 at her death, much given to charities.
