Biography: Charlotte Bickersteth was born on 17 June 1822 in Islington, the second daughter of clergyman Edward Bickersteth, rector of Watton. Her younger brother was the clergyman and author Edward Henry Bickersteth, later Bishop of Exeter. In middle age, she turned to writing beginning with a memoir of her sisters. In all, she wrote over twenty books including several novels. Late in life, she married in 1866 clergyman Edward Langton Ward, rector of Blendworth, Hampshire. She died on 11 September 1896 in Hampstead.
