Author: Annie Curtis Sherwood (1863–1950)
Alternate Name(s): Annie Isabella Curtis Sherwood (legal name)
Biography: Annie Curtis Sherwood was born on 1 August 1863 in Thirsk, the daughter of guano and seed merchant Edward Sherwood and his wife Isabella (née Pigot). Judging by the household, she grew up in comfort. Sherwood never married and lived with her parents or a sibling her whole life. In her thirties, she began writing fiction beginning with The Spirit of Love (1893) published anonymously (as will her next two novels). Around the turn of the century, she moved with her sister to Rosamund House, Clifford, Herefordshire. Her last novel To the Outside (1911) was suppressed due to libel but she sold it via mail anyway. She died on 22 April 1950 at a nursing home in Radnorshire. She left an estate of over £34,000.
