Author: Joseph Alan Scofield (born 1845)
Biography: Joseph Alan Scofield was born in 1845 in Suffolk, the son of Edward Scofield and his wife Helen (née Beeden). He attended a small boarding school in Woodbridge and earned a degree from the University of London (1867). By the 1871 census, he lived in Westminster and worked as a clerk in the Duchy of Cornwall offices. Seemingly, he was an ardent supporter of temperance and all three of his published works—a novel, a play, and a pamphlet—include it as a theme. Thereafter, his life cannot be traced.
