Author: Harriette Bowra (1815–1898)
Biography: Harriette Bowra was born in June 1815 in Clavering, Essex, the daughther of the Rev. William Bowra and Sarah Wisbey. Her father died in 1815 and later her mother remarried to Isaac Cole. Bowra attended the Clergy Orphan School. By 1851, Bowra was living with a family as a governess. In the 1870s, Bowra had moved to Nice, France and began writing fiction. She never married and died in Aix-les-Bains on 11 August 1898. According to her probate, she died a moderately wealthy woman, the source of which remains unknown.
