Author: John Julian Bouchard

Author: John Julian Bouchard (1834–1903)

Alternate Name(s): Jajabee (pseudonym)

Biography: John Julian Bouchard was born on 16 May 1834 in Forfarshire, the son of George Bouchard and his wife Catherine. From humble origins, he was working as a house painter and decorator by his eighteenth birthday. By the 1860s, he had relocated to the London area to practice his trade. As improbable as it sounds, he published a novel Frank Amor (1876) under the pseudonym "Jajabee" (a play on his initials). It was well received and he wrote a serial novel "Woman is Master" (19 January 1883–15 February 1884) for the newspaper Lakes Chronicle and Reporter under his own name. (His connection with this newspaper is unknown.) He married and had at least four children. Sadly, the 1901 census finds him an inmate in the Metropolitan Asylum. He died in 1903 in Wandsworth.
