Author: Catherine Ferguson Lumsden (1859–1942)
Alternate Name(s): Crocus Forster Legh (pseudonym); Le Flaguais (married name)
Biography: According to literary gossip, the author "Crocus Forster Legh" is a "young lady, a native of a central parish in Banffshire, now living in the Granite City [Aberdeen], whose initials are preserved in her nom de plume." The 1881 census contains a single person matching those criteria: Catherine Ferguson Lumsden, who was born in 1859 in Grange, Banffshire, the eldest daughter of prosperous farmer James Lumsden and his second wife Catherine (née Ferguson). In her youth, she wrote the single novel but does not appear to have followed up its success. Though hard to believe, she married in 1883 the French man Raymond Octave Le Falguais and the couple lived in France where at least one son was born. She is hard to trace thereafter. Her husband died in 1926 in London and she may have died on 25 February 1942. Note: the facts of her life post 1883 are unreliable.
