Biography: Gertrude Margaretta George was born in around 1846 in London, the daughter of ironmonger John George of Streatham. In 1886, she married the Rev. William George Spurrell (1856–1949), the son of Welsh publisher William Spurrell. Presumably they met while the younger Spurrell served as curate of Streatham after taking holy orders. The couple later moved to his native Pembrokeshire where he served as rector to Cosheston and vicar of Carew. Before her marriage, George published a novel The Valley of Sorek (1884) followed by another after her marriage The Patroness (1899). She died on 31 March 1926 in Carew.
