Biography: David Ryles Griffiths was born in 1862 in Presteigne, Wales, the son of bank clerk David Griffiths and his wife Catherine (née Jones). Griffiths appears to have followed his father's profession. Despite the humble position, the family had considerable wealth. He never married and lived most of his life in the vicinity of Presteigne. In addition to locally published poetry, he wrote just the single historical novel, Elgiva (1901). He died on 28 April 1917 in Northampton.
