Author: Mary Louisa Whately (1824–1889)
Biography: Mary Louisa Whately was born on 31 August 1824 in Halesworth, Suffolk, the second daughter of Archbishop Whately and his wife author Elizabeth Whately (née Pope). Her sister was the author Elizabeth Jane Whately.She participated in mission work in Dublin during the famine years before moving to Cairo for her health. While there, she opened a school for Moslem girls and later opened one for boys. The enterprise grew to include a medical facility. She also wrote several books about or set in Egypt. She died on 9 March 1889 in Cairo.
