Author: George Patmore Payne (1807–1852)
Biography: Geroge Patmore Payne was born in 1807 in Bath, the son of goldsmith Robert Malthus Payne. He was a Liverpool businessman specializing in charts and maps. In 1829, he married Harriette Melling. As a result of a trip to America, he wrote a series of lightly-fictionalized travel articles collected as Uncle Sam's Peculiarities (1844) and published anonymously. He died on 7 June 1852 in Bath.
