Biography: Elizabeth "Lili" Rebbeck was born on 9 December 1863 in Angoulême, France. As a young woman, she joined her brother in Tonkin. While on a visit to Hong Kong, she met and married the English engineer James Knight Rebbeck who helped develop the city's tram line. The couple have several children. Around 1890, the family moves to England where Rebbeck publishes her novel The Home of the Dragon (1893) under the pseudonym "Anna Catharina." By the mid-1890s, the couple move again to Vancouver. After her husband's death in 1910, she will operate a tea room and late in life remarry. She died on 12 February 1935 in Vancouver.
