Biography: Edith Eliza Cowper [Cooper] was born on 21 July 1859 in Stevenage, the daughter of clergyman Edward Cadogan. In 1876, she married yachtsman and author Frank Cowper and the couple had eight children. The couple lived in Hampshire where they ran a school, but the marriage was an unhappy one and they separated. Cowper turned to fiction producing a string of novels for S.P.C.K. as well as contributing to periodicals. By 1891, she lived on the Isle of Wight married with five children. She later moved to the London area then back to Hampshire. She died on 18 November 1933 in Milford on Sea.
