Biography: Frank Cowper was born on 18 January 1849 in London, the son of Henry Cooper. He attended Queen's College, Oxford and earned a B.A. (1871) and M.A. (1875). An ardent sailor, he became a noted single-handed yachtsman. He would go on to write several books on sailing. In 1876, he married author Edith Eliza Cadogan and the couple would have eight children. The couple lived in Hampshire where they ran a school, but the marriage was an unhappy one and they separated. He also wrote adventure and historical fiction, mainly aimed at young adult readers. He died on 28 May 1930 in Winchester.
