Biography: Effie Anne Clarke was born in 1813 in London, the only child of timber merchant James Ingram. In 1834, she married another timber merchant Daniel Clarke who partnered in business with her father in Lancashire. The couple had no children. Soon after her marriage, Clarke wrote a collection of stories Tales and Sketches, Historical and Domestic (1838). After a short illness, she died on 6 January 1869 in Liverpool.
