Author: Anne Bowman
Author: Anne Bowman (1796–1886)
Biography: Anne Bowman was born on 3 May 1796 in Stanwick, Yorkshire, the daughter of solicitor's clerk Thomas Bowman and his wife Ann Pulleine. By 1851, she lived with her bookseller brother in Richmond and began writing adventure stories for juvenile readers shortly thereafter. Bowman later assisted her niece Elizabeth Croft in her writing career. She never married and remained in Richmond for the rest of her life, eventually dying at her nephew's house on 23 July 1886. Though her novels are set around the globe, there is no evidence Bowman ever left her native Yorkshire.
