Author: Robert William Essington (1818–1907)

Biography: Robert William Essington was born on 17 May 1818 in Compton Bassett, Wiltshire, the son of Robert and Sarah (née Wayte) Essington. He attended Eton where he was captain of the Eton Eleven and their first ever round-arm bowler. According to his obituary, he was a "good all-round cricketer." Essington went on to Cambridge earning a B.A. and M.A. before being ordained. He was the long-time vicar of Shenstone near Lichfield. In 1857, he married Anne Negus and the couple had seven children. A gifted poet, he also wrote the single novel. He died on 18 July 1907 in Newquay.
